35 Years of History

Bishop’s Homemade Ice Cream had its start in 1976. A young entrepreneurial couple from the Boston area loved to ski—spending most weekends during the winter and skiing the fabulous White Mountain ski areas as much as possible. One day after a magnificent day of skiing they said “what can we do to support our life style and still ski all winter?” After much discussion and research they determined great  ice cream was a  most sought-after dessert when the weather was warm and the sun was shining (and that was the case during the spring, summer and fall). During the winter months folks in this area did not eat much ice cream, due to the cold and snow. The test market came during the bicentennial celebration of July 4, 1976. Ice cream was made from scratch, signs were strategically placed and soon the Bishop’s Homemade Ice Cream name became an icon in the area. That event began a tradition of homemade goodness that lives on nearly 35 years later.

Bishop’s still makes small batch premium ice cream, frozen yogurt and fresh fruit sorbets.
